Stabilo Postural Aids Modular System

The Stabilo postural aid system is a selection of cushions, of varying shapes and sizes to form an interchangeable system, that provides comfort and stability to all ages.  When several cushions are used together, they are often referred to as a ‘sleep system’ or in the case of Stabilo a ‘modular system’.

The Stabilo range of cushions can provide comfort at an affordable price for a wide range of individuals including:

The elderly – the system is particularly good for elderly persons spending a lot of time in a lying position in bed or in a riser recliner, day, or night.  The cushions can provide comfort to a person while avoiding rubbing and pressure points in the body.  The ‘lateral positioning’ cushion is one of our most popular cushions, which is particularly beneficial to people who are prone to a ‘wind swept’ lying position often seen with dementia patients.  It also provides comfort to pregnant women in their final trimester and can help them get comfortable for a good nights sleep.

Teens and adults – The Stabilo kit will keep you comfortable day and night, with its small micro beads and breathable PureMed™ outer cover. Ensures comfort at night or during rest while supporting posture, and preventing heat and pressure build ups.

Children - A selection of cushions specifically for your child that will support and comfort an optimal sleeping position at night.   The British Journal of Occupational Therapy study on sleeping systems (download available below) found:

‘There were indications that some children and young people had their pain alleviated with the use of a sleep positioning system.’

‘There are studies that report reduced number of awakenings when using sleep positioning systems.’

‘Analysis showed that improvement with use of a sleep positioning system was most significant in body symmetry (using the GIs as a measure) in children with cerebral palsy.’

Babies

The Stabilo range also comes with a range of smaller cushions for babies and infants.   We do not recommend the use of these without the involvement of a Physiotherapist.   If your baby is suffering with reflux, a positioning cushion may help, however opinions are still divided on the use of positional therapy for the treatment of reflux in babies.  Download study below.
